Team Structure

Role Overview 

The role will require a degree of flexibility with some out of hours working required; particularly around system enhancements and upgrades, month-end processes, potential unexpected downtime and monthly server patching. This junior position will suit someone with a natural problem-solving mindset who is keen to build a long-term career in financial systems within a professional services environment. The role would particularly suit an individual who is curious about the complexities of financial processes and motivated by understanding how the underlying systems support users to work efficiently. The role is ideal for an individual with a genuine interest in technology - and in how thoughtful use of technology can streamline and improve business processes. Team Structure

The Application Systems Team consists of the Finance, Knowledge Management and People Systems teams which is headed up by the Senior Applications Systems Manager, supported with a Finance Systems Manager, Knowledge Management Systems Manager and People Systems Manager. The Finance Systems team consists of 3 Functional Systems Analysts, a Finance Systems Support Team Leader, a Finance Systems Support Analyst and a Finance Systems Support Assistant. The team sits in the IT Department and works closely with both IT Applications and Development teams and Accounts departments with ownership of the firm's key business systems including; PMS – Aderant Expert, Reporting & Budgeting and the Intapp suite of products as well as integrations between all of the firm’s systems.


The team leads innovations around the utilisation of systems, best practice and develops bespoke solutions to support business needs. This position will suit an individual with proven experience in reviewing, recommending and implementing both processes and solutions. They should also have good accounting knowledge, Billing, Accounts Payable or Cashiering processes, excellent technical skills and be comfortable leading all aspects of project delivery.

Main Responsibilities

The Finance Systems Support Assistant is responsible for the day-to-day operational support of the firm’s finance systems. This role ensures system stability, resolves user issues, and executes routine maintenance tasks. It is a critical first-line role that supports the wider Finance Systems team by triaging incidents, maintaining data integrity, and escalating issues appropriately.

  • Act as an initial contact for finance systems queries via ServiceNow, triaging and escalating incidents as required, following SLAs.
  • Monitor and manage the unassigned queue within ServiceNow under the guidance of senior team members.
  • Support daily data integrity checks of key systems (e.g., Aderant Expert, Intapp, I4G, Concur) to help ensure uptime and data quality, with supervision.
  • Assist with scheduled tasks such as patch testing and user access reviews, and help with monthly server and system maintenance activities as directed.
  • Help to maintain accurate and up-to-date support documentation and contribute to the team’s knowledge base, with support from others.
  • Respond to basic user queries related to billing, accounts payable, time entry, and reporting, providing guidance on simple system navigation and usage.
  • Refer complex or unresolved issues to the Finance Systems Support Analyst, Supervisor or Functional team as appropriate.
  • Join training sessions delivered by senior team members to develop knowledge of new processes and applications.
  • Assist with basic data validation and integrity checks across finance systems, with oversight from the wider team.
  • Provide cover for other members of the team when needed and as agreed.
  • Be flexible with working hours as required for business needs and during Month End peak periods, as directed by senior staff.

Attributes/Skills Required

  • Proactive, hardworking, and organised, with the ability to structure and manage own workload independently when required.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail, combined with a strong eagerness to learn and grow.
  • Willingness to learn new skills and contribute to the ongoing development of the Firm's business systems and procedures.
  • Knowledge of or desire to learn SQL.
  • Previous law firm experience and/or an interest in accounting or experience within a finance function environment would be beneficial.
  • Service-oriented mindset with a methodical approach to troubleshooting and a professional manner, appropriate for a commercial law firm.
  • Familiarity with finance processes in a legal environment is desirable.
  • Experience using ServiceNow or similar ITSM platforms.
  • Basic understanding of Aderant Expert (or other Practice Management Systems) and related systems is desirable.
